It's not a joke. But its not something that will threaten everybody in some way.

It's party media hype, but its also simply the current center of attention. Which basically means the media isn't ignoring it. (duh)

well, school on all levels from k to college have been suspended nation-wide. There are 1,600 confirmed infected and 149 dead. Everybody wears face masks on the street. There are few if any face masks, vitamin supplements and over the counter medications available at drug stores. Museums, theaters, sporting events have been canceled. Even some restaurants, cafes and bars have closed down. Many countries have issued warnings against travel to Mexico. Embassies have closed and stopped issuing visas from Mexico.

I live in Mexico and things are getting really serious in here, it is spreading and the government just lies about what is really happening, school has been cancelled until May 6, and there's nothing to do, you cannot go outside, everything is closed and there's paranoia

It has killed around 80 people.. I dont know, Im not an expert. The idea of a big epidemic scares me. It might be serious it might not be. Although it is too early to tell.

It do is very serious.. all outbreaks of such disease should be handled carefully.
This are times you can travel anywhere you want, so if a diseased person flies to I don't know to Europe or china and it spreads there then hell breaks loose..

It's serious because for the first time, as I've understood, this kind of flu has become contageous between humans. Someone above mentioned it's not dangerous to anyone outside Mexico and California - not yet maybe, but there's a good chance it will spread. At least the possibility is there. That said; I think this qualifies as something to be considered serious.

its serious as is any flu to the weak young and the elderly...heck normal flu is still serious, and killed more. in the articles i read, theres already a vaccination and normal flu drugs work against it too.

Yeah! Let's hope so.
My friend from the greener pastures(California) -
Mankind has survived two such flus (that might have really existed but exaggerated by the media in proportions beyond believability till they fucked our happiness and money):
1- SAARS virus
2- Birdflu...

Now, they seem to be fully under control and no one has that IT SEEMS.
SAARS was believable to a certain extent from all the stories that circled in all the media publications all those days, but the second took dramatic twists and turns in its evolution and spread, all for the good of serious media business.

Even if yours could turn out to be true, US is advanced enough to help her citizens from such outbreaks.

Anyway let's hope it wont be a serious one. :)

In Brazil we have Dengue. Well, I can assure you that here, it's not media hype...

I think that is a bit serious, because we can't find out how this flu will act in days to come. Maybe it's just for a few days, or it'll be something big, and dangerous =/

it's media hype only to people who don't live in Mexico or California

serious because it is unprecedented

serious because i live in California (and so does my family)
