It really boils down what you intend to do with them.

Either working for them or with them.

These two small things have a HUGE impact!!!

I think it is a good way to begin since friends tend to be more trustfull when begining a business as long as the two parts know when to separate business and personal relationship.. I'm starting a little graphic design7fashion business with some friends and every technical thing is watched by some acounting and lawyer friends.. so as long as we don't get money crazy , we think is off to a good star and a nice oportunity to grow and eventually move on into different things...

depends on how you want to pursue it. if partners, i would not recommend, as being creative we love our spaces. with friends, doing business project wise, independently is the best way. this way you enjoy and maintain freedom and space.

always a risk in friendship when it comes to ANYTHING involving money or promises.. so.. i tend not to do business with friends unless its their family.. or if i barely know them..

i dont mind dedicating pieces to them though as long as i get to include them in my portfolio! :D

 It just seems as if so very much could fall apart from the risk of getting friends or even family involved, it really depends on the nature of whoever you're wanting to work with. A lot of the time these people get a hidden agenda in the works but I'm honestly not speaking from experience and just heeding the words of others :P

it depends from the friend! a good suggestion is always to talk things through, and with a friend is easier than with a person you don't know well. i'm in business with a friend with which i collaborate sometimes to make websites and i'm happy with it, it's a trust based relation so things work great. to be clear about the money part it's always good =)

mmm don't know but in freelances ALL friends loves your work that's for shure, but some of them think that they can get it for free!!! ... or almost free. (friends or family jobs) aren't good money-making bussines.

Never do that. As in ever. I'm serious. My dad has done business with FAMILY, not even friends, and they cheated the shit out him that we were to our necks in debt, and we haven't seen a cent from them since. And that was family. But friends too, and it's one thing he taught me: keep friends/family and business as far away as possible from each other. They expect favours, take things for granted because you're family of course.

And our family is cool. Some may be freaky (aren't all?) but we did business with who are my uncles. And they're nice fellas, just do not ever approach them with anything linking with money.

i think family is worse because of what you said and because of existing dynamics that usually affect the business part too. with friends it might be different, but it always depends on how friends are :D

I'm not saying my dad is always right, but from what I've seen: he is in this situation. I'll never do any business, bar buying an ice cream from a friend. That is all.

Friends are cheap. Stii vorba aia, frate ca frate, dar branza e pe bani. They're expecting you do to do it for free/cheap, and you expect them to pay you more just because they're your friends, even though it would not be fair! :D

Last night a friend contacted me to make a logo for his dad's construction company. I know he didn't even think of having to pay. I said that I will try in the next couple of days, but my motivation isn't strong enough.

PROBLEMATIC!
